Kids Yoga Continues!

Yoga student

Kids Yoga continues each Tuesday and Thursday, 2 P.M. @ the Ringling Community Center. Remember we do have 10 mats but feel free to bring your own. If you haven’t made it to class yet, no worries even if you only make one session I guarantee you will learn some fun moves. This Kids Yoga session ends on Thursday, July 21st.

Healthy Living Programming made possible by a health literacy grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries.

Kids in the Kitchen Grand Finale

Kids in the Kitchen Ice Cream Sandwiches

We ended our first year of Kids in the Kitchen with a not quite healthy snack but since National Ice Cream Cake Day was the day before, and July’s National Ice Cream Month is just around the corner we thought a celebration was in order – so ice cream sandwiches!

Tara Brown, OSU Extension Educator, did a great job putting the program together. Kids in the Kitchen was made possible by the Jefferson County OSU Extension agency and a health literacy grant
from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered
by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. We plan to resume in
September.

E-books Are Here!

Overdrive LogoThe Gleason Memorial Library is very excited to be a recipient of an E-media grant funded by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and Institute of Museum and Library Services. The grant provides 1500.00 to contract with Overdrive, an e-book and more company, for a one year membership in the Ok Virtual Library Consortium (OKVL). $500.00 will go to management fees and we will use $1000.00 to purchase books to add to the Consortium collection. The OKVL provides e-books and audio books to 85 public libraries and library systems that have service populations below 100,000. During the most recent year, 411,950 e-books, 113,845 audio books, and 1,825 streaming videos were circulated to Oklahomans through OKVL.  For more information visit our new Ok Virtual Library page.

You will need your library card number and a password to access Overdrive and OKVL. Please contact the library for this information at 580-662-2925. Library staff will be happy to assist patrons in accessing Overdrive. However; we do ask your patience since we may not be familiar with the device you wish to use. We will make every effort in figuring it out and getting you started!

We have wanted to provide our patrons with E-book access for some time and this grant gives us the opportunity to take the plunge. We will be conducting at least one survey of our patrons for input on the value of this service. If you miss a paper survey request and still have an opinion, please let us know in person, by phone or send us a comment at gleasonmemorial@gmail.com. This is an important project for our library to undertake and we need your input.
