Kids in the Kitchen Grand Finale

Kids in the Kitchen Ice Cream Sandwiches

We ended our first year of Kids in the Kitchen with a not quite healthy snack but since National Ice Cream Cake Day was the day before, and July’s National Ice Cream Month is just around the corner we thought a celebration was in order – so ice cream sandwiches!

Tara Brown, OSU Extension Educator, did a great job putting the program together. Kids in the Kitchen was made possible by the Jefferson County OSU Extension agency and a health literacy grant
from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered
by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. We plan to resume in
September.

Save the Date and Don’t Forget Wednesday, Jan. 23rd!

Tara Brown, Jefferson County OSU Extension Educator

We present classes 3 & 4 from the L.E.A.D. = Live Well, Eat Well, be Active with Diabetes  series @ 3:30 – 5:30 pm.

Tara Brown, Jefferson County OSU Extension Educator, brought us valuable information in Class 2 of the series.  That class emphasized  the benefits of weight loss – if needed: decreasing calories in, increasing calories out, carbohydrate counting, using food labels and physical activity. This combined class 3 & 4 will focus on stress and other complications diabetes can cause as well as using the Plate Method vs. Carb Counting to manage food choices, using visual cues and keeping an activity log. The second half will show how to modify the sugar, fat, sodium and fiber contents in recipes and increasing physical activity. Please share news of this class to pass the word along to anyone who would be interested. No need to worry about missing Class 1 or 2, each class is filled with beneficial information.
